Methods:
1. Drawing blood:
A. Separately attach two clamps to two rubber tubes. Attach one tube to the IV bag and allow infusion (synthetic blood) to pass through the venous system until air bubbles are eliminated. Insert the other tube into a basin or jar. The venous system is now full and pressurized. Shut off the lower tube.
B. Generally disinfect the forearm skin.
C. Select suitable vein and draw 2ml synthetic blood by a 10ml syringe.
2. Injection or infusion:
Generally select vena cephalica and vena basilica to exercise venous injection and infusion skills.
- Separately attach two clamps to two rubber tubes. Attach one tube to IV bag and allow infusion (clean water) to pass through the venous system until air bubbles are eliminated. Insert the other tube into a basin or jar. The venous system is now full and pressurized. Shut off the lower tube.
- Generally disinfect the forearm skin.
- Injection: Select suitable vein. Fix the vein by forefinger and middle finger of left hand. Hold the syringe (50cc, filled with fluid) by right hand and thrust it into the vein (vertical or 40° angle). If blood flashback can be seen, shut off the upper tube and loose the lower rubber tube clamp. Fix the needle by one hand and quickly push the plug of the syringe. Allow the fluid to pass through the venous system until fluid enters into the basin or jar. Once injection is finished, draw out the needle.
Intravenous infusion: Prepare another IV bag filled with clean water. Attach one clamp to the IV tube. Thrust the infusion needle into the vein. If there is flashback of blood, loose the clamp of the IV tube and regulate the speed of flow. Allow the fluid to pass through the venous system until fluid enters into the basin or jar, and then fix the needle well.
3. Metachysis:
A. Separately attach two clamps to two rubber tubes. Attach one tube to blood bag and allow infusion (synthetic blood) to pass through the venous system until air bubbles are eliminated. Insert the other tube into a basin or jar. The venous system is now full and pressurized. Shut off the lower tube.
B. Generally disinfect the forearm skin.
C. Prepare another IV bag filled with synthetic blood. Attach one clamp to the IV tube. Select suitable vein and thrust the infusion needle into the vein. Once see the flashback of blood, regulate the speed of flow. Allow the blood to pass through the venous system until fluid enters into the basin or jar through the lower rubber tube.
